Want Dense Muscle? Do These Push Ups πŸ’ͺ🏽

Published: Mon, 02/19/18

Yo! It's Monday & today is international chest day.

In honor of that I wanna show you how to make your push ups harder.

Besides adding weight one of the main ways to make push ups harder is to reduce the push up's leverage. And that can easily be done by using an unstable surface.

So today I am sharing 2 Unstable Push Up Variations:

#1) Ring Push Ups: Grab gymnastic rings and and try to do a push up.

Β
Sounds simple but the fact that you have to balance the ring to not move will be a massive core stability challenge and you will be forced to grip the life out of those rings to not face plant.
Β
The flatter the surface you put the rings on the harder it will be; Wood or cement is hard, gym mats are slightly easier but still hard & grass is probably the easiest to start off with since the ring dents a little into the dirt giving you a more stable surface.
Β
Do these before you do any push ups since they are very taxing and also be sure to warm up your wrists for a good 5-10 min.
Β
#2) Rolling Push Ups: Grab some handles that roll and do push ups while you move the bars.

Not everyone will have access to the bars I show in the video but you can use:
  • Dumbbells that roll
  • Load up 2 barbell with plates and use those as handles
  • Even furniture sliders will work!
With this one you can get creative and do:
  • Deep push ups
  • Archer push ups
  • L-Sits after a push up
  • Roll the bar onto you while on a plank
There are a lot of options for these ones and the fact that the bars are rolling or moving will make everything super challenging.

Try these variations next time you do push ups and you might get obsessed trying to get 1 rep of ring push ups like I did!

Also if you wanna get a dense and muscular body like a gymnast and not just puffy muscles then add more of these exercises to your training. The extra time under tension + stability training is the key to building that denser muscle look.

Good Luck ;)
