Triple Clap Push Up "Variation" For Beginners

So I've been working on my triple clap push up and have been getting a few questions about it.

I don't have a full rep yet but I do a "foot assisted" variation of it that is a lot simpler to master and build up the confidence to go for the triple clap that I wanna teach to you today.

Foot Assisted Triple Clap Push Up Explained:

1) Between the Leg Clap: To perform this variation you wanna get used to stomping on the ground and clapping in between your legs. (This is the first push up I show on the video.)

This should be really simple as you are standing on one foot. Practice doing a few reps back to back to get used to the movement.

It is a very simple movement once you get used to the exercise but it adds some nice style to your push ups when you mix them up.

2) Clapping push ups: You should be able to do 5+ reps of clapping push ups minimum so you build up your explosive power. If you can't here are some good variations to build that clapping strength:

  • Shoulder tap push up: Touch the opposite shoulder as you push up and then repeat with the other side. This variation teaches you to let go with assistance.
  • Explosive push up: For this ones simply let go off the floor. No nee to clap simply explode up from the ground and get used to catching the floor again.
3) Assisted Triple Clap Push Up: If you are able to perform the above push ups with ease then this variation will be a piece of cake.

For this variation:

  1. Stomp in the ground like the in between the legs push ups but this time clap right away as you explode up.
  2. Then clap behind your back
  3. And as you come down clap again in front of you.
Feel free to keep your foot planted to get used to clapping fast but slowly overtime try to only rely on getting your hips high without stomping the ground.

The KEY to get more air is to GET YOUR HIPS HIGH. If you can get your hips high in the air you will have more time to do 3 claps - That's the "SECRET".

That's it!

If you can do the above steps you should be able to triple clap without the foot assistance overtime as you get faster and build more explosiveness BUT to begin with this foot assisted variation works wonders to build up the mechanics of the triple clap push up.
