Best Sets & Reps For Beginners!
Published: Fri, 04/26/13
Yo, What is up! Hope you having an awesome Friday, am about to go eat some Korean BBQ, so I'll keep this short...
Yesterday you became aware that there is no "best" sets and reps as all is relative to your goals
However when it comes to beginners, developing good mechanical habits is fundamental & a priority before even caring about sets and reps
What I mean by good mechanical habits is that you must master good technique when you are beggining, so you have a solid foundation & your body moves smoothly without much compromise
Once this foundation is sets, then we can worry about manipulating sets & reps, as if you start to focus on just completing certain reps even tough your form is crap, then you are just gonna develop imbalances, and be prone for injury
So developing good form habits is fundamental as a begginer
What I have found for beginners is that sticking with low reps & higer sets works best
For example, instead of doing 4 sets of 8 reps on the squat
Doing 8 sets of 4 would be a lot more beneficial for someone starting out, as it allows for better focused technique (since technique breaks down fast when your fresh as your CNS is not used to the patterns or can't handle heavy loads on your body just yet)
I say begginers but Even more experienced athletes need this as many times they have years of bad habits
So if you are beginner or have bad habits that you wanna improve, focus on doing low reps but high sets as they will allow you to practice good form & develop good habits!
I personally wish I could have known this when starting off (would have saved me from a couple of injuries & nagging pains!)
But oh well, you live, you learn...
Talk soon guys,
P.S. One of my friends just had a baby, and that is good news for you! (you'll see why in a few days!)
