Best Sets & Reps?

Published: Fri, 04/26/13

What's craking beasts!...Hope your having a kick ass day

RecentlyI have been getting a lot of questions with regards to rep & sets
  • What are the best parameters?
  • Does using light weight for high reps make you cut?
  • Will heavy weights make me bulky?
  • etc
All of these questions are not definitive, there is no best or one size fits all since the best parameter has to be adjusted to meet your current goal

If your goal is to get bigger, then Time Under Tension is a priority to stimulate muscle growth

And that tension can come from long and slow bodyweight reps or using moderately heavy weights with a controlled tempo

When it comes to purely building strength (without much bulk) then training the Nervous System to generate more power is key

And this can come from explosive plyometrics, lifting heavy, using isometrics, heavy partials, etc

There is no one definitive answer as to what the "best" parameters are, as all is relative to your goals

So just keep that in mind next time you ask those questions or hear somebody asking them

Tomorrow I'll share what I believe are the "best" (or should should say "optimal") sets & reps for a beginner!... talk soon!
